Vinyl decals adhere better to smooth surfaces and canvas is rough enough that it can create air pockets and overall be quite hard to get vinyl to stick to.
Some of the transfer paper brands are entirely too sticky.
I prefer to use clear contact paper to transfer my vinyl.
Time temperature and pressure are all extremely important factors when you are using htv heat transfer vinyl.
That is a cooking spatula to rub down the vinyl and get the letters to stick to my transfer paper.
